Kevin (Kev) Kohler was born in Beloit, Kansas, on Jan. 19, 1954. His unique perspective and talent shine through each piece, making his work not just art, but a reflection of resilience, creativity and lived experience.
Kevin was a proud Marine who served during the Vietnam War. After boot camp, he was very excited when they assigned him to “ART”, only to discover it meant Artillery, a story he would later share with humor.
In 1987, Kevin Kohler moved to Dallas, Oregon, where he worked as a graphic artist for the Oregon State Parks Department. He quickly became an active member of the local arts community, participating in festivals throughout the region. Known for his engaging style, Kevin often worked on pieces live at events, welcoming questions and sharing insight into his creative process.
His work became a defining part of the area’s visual landscape. Residents of Dallas, Salem, and Corvallis may recognize him as the artist behind more than 40 large-scale murals across the region. Notable works include murals at the Polk County Museum, a historical depiction of Dallas before and after the Great Fire, and a prominent American flag mural featuring founders Polk and Dallas at the corner of Main and Washington Street.
